SIVERSTONE ROUNDS 5 & 6 RACE REPORTS

The Equipe MG Cup runners had two races on Sunday, and in the morning race a great start from Invitation class runner Max Cawthorn saw him lead into the first corner from the third row of the grid in his MGA, though pole sitter Stuart Emmett had his ZR190 in the lead as they reached Stowe. Emmett then pulled away, Cawthorn secure in second as Archie Styant was initially third only to lose out to Gianni Picone.

The leader had the pace to ease away from the field, Cawthorn able to stay clear of his pursuers, while later in the race George Streather joined in the dice for third in his ZR190. Emmett took the win from Cawthorn, while Streather passed Styant with two laps to go for third, and Dan Ludlow was fifth having started at the back of the grid, his car trailing smoke late in the race.

“The car was really set up and goes well, we are on cut slicks,” said Emmett. “I was able to pull away – though I was impressed by the MGA especially at the start!”

It was an all action opening lap in the afternoon race, several lead changes on the opening lap with Styant coming round ahead of Streather and Cawthorn for the lead, Emmett having handed his car to Ludlow who started at the back of the grid but was to come tearing up the order. The lead trio ran close, Cawthorn getting past Streather heading into Copse at the start of lap four and in the lead by the end of the lap.

Cawthorn held on at the front of the pack and duly took the win in the MGA, Streather second, heading Class C and the ZS180 of James Moreton third to seal Class B victory. Class A victory went to Freddie Ugo, to match brother Charlie’s similar great result in race one.
