Class D front runner Rhys Higginbotham set the Equipe MG Cup pace in qualifying with his ZR190, the Metro of Matt Payne in the Invitation Class sharing the front row. The pair were right together at the end of lap one, the MGB of Peter Bramble two seconds further back with Mark Wright’s MGF Cup, from the fourth row of the grid, in fourth.
Higginbotham eased clear lap by lap, although Payne closed in in the latter laps as the pair lapped back markers, before ceding time on the final lap and having to settle for second behind the flying leader. Bramble was a secure third in his class D MGB, while Terry Loxton, who had slipped to fifth early on, took fourth in his MG Montego. Class A honours went to John Cadwell marking his MG Cup debut in style with Class C fronted by Simon Lowery.
The win put Higginbottom on pole for the second 20-minute race, but a great start from the fourth row by Wright saw Higginbottom followed across the line at the end of lap one by the MGF. Wright held on until lap three, Simon Lowery going past in his ZS180 and quickly followed through by Loxton.
The lead pair pulled clear of the rest, Higginbottom taking his second win with Lowery second at the end, Loxton third, Payne had tumbled down the order on the opening lap in his Metro, coming though 11th, but recovered to be back in fourth by lap six, the leaders already out of reach. This time Class A was headed by Mark Wright with Nich Ashman taking the Class B win.
