Adding variety to the afternoon was a 40-minute MG Challenge Handicap race for Equipe BCV8 and Equipe MG Cup runners, The opening laps featured an all V8 MGB trio lapping together at speed, Jordan Spencer heading the car shared by James and Jonathan Wheeler and that of Steve Wells, the trio seldom more than a second part.
The Wheeler car was the first to falter, pitting for several laps, Jordan Spencer finally getting a couple of seconds advantage over Wells with Luke Spencer now third, Wells the first to make his compulsory pitstop going in at the end of lap 15. The leader was in three laps later, a lap after the third placed car had pitted – the MG ZR190 shared by Stuart Emmett and Dan Ludlow that had superbly worked its way through from the back of the grid.
Spencer emerged behind Wells but closed in and was past into Becketts on lap 26, only for Wells to immediate fight back, then lose the lead again at Copse before coming to a halt at Luffield. Jordan Spencer rattled off the remaining laps to win from Luke Spencer, the Emmett and Ludlow ZR190 first of the MG Cup runners home in third, Oliver Wardle fourth in his MGB GT V8.
“That was such a good battle early on,” said Jordan Spencer. “I was expecting Steve Wells to just blast past me at any point but I somehow kept him at bay! Our transponder wasn’t working properly so I was looking to ease off and I had the pit wall telling me to push harder!”
The Handicap race produced a great result with Peter Burchill taking the honors in his ZS180 from Dale Reet and a superb third place for Archie Styant in their ZR170s. ” I am absolutely chuffed to bits” said Peter after the race. Peter’s win also earned him a cash prize of £250 from our partners at Drivenfi “This is a total but very welcome suprise” added Peter.
